Located near Beech, this small concrete slab bridge crosses Iowa Highway 92.
Built in 1924, the bridge features a single concrete slab span. Sometimes, these spans are considered to be box culverts, although this span seems bigger than a normal box culvert.
In addition, the span runs at a significant skew, with large wing walls. Because 92 is a busy road, this narrow underpass is especially scary to document. It also appears that 92 was lowered at some point to allow more vertical clearance.
This type of bridge was common for both crossing roadways, due to the simple nature of the design and ease of maintenance.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in fair to good condition, with some spalling on the bridge.
The author has rated this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
